What is there to see and do in the Trasmiera Ecopark?

The Trasmiera Ecopark offers a range of amazing activities for campers of all ages. Hiking enthusiasts can explore the winding paths through the forests and cliffs by the sea. Follow the Ruta de los Acantilados de Isla (or route of the cliffs) or the Camino de Santiago, for example.

The area is also famous for the Trasmiera Ecopark Trail, a race covering different routes over 3 days in March, to suit all levels of runner: a children’s trail, the Grand Prix d’Isla, a charity night trail, a slow trail in the heart of nature, and a faster, more intense speed trail for experienced runners.

Just like Cantabria, the comarca (or county) of Trasmiera is also appreciated for its prime location by the Atlantic Ocean and for its golden sandy beaches. Here, swimming, lounging and watersports await you. The unmissable beaches include Playa de La Arena at the mouth of the Ria Castellano, just metres away from our campsite. Playa de El Sable, Ria de Quejo, Playa de los Barcos and Playa de Arnadal are also worth a visit. They are all located on the Isla coast.

If you’re looking for historical and cultural experiences, you can visit the various churches and medieval towers in the surrounding villages, such as:

  • Arnuero church
  • Isla church
  • The Palace of the Counts of Isla-Fernández
  • Cabrahigo Tower
  • Jado Tower
  • Venero Tower…

After all these activities, you’ll have worked up an appetite and will be eager to sample the local produce, such as Isla peppers or lobster.

A heritage of environmental commitment

The Trasmiera Ecopark draws its inspiration from a long tradition of nature conservation in the Cantabrian region. For generations, the local people have taken care of their land, preserving its biodiversity and natural beauty. It was the municipalities of Arnuero, Castillo Siete Villas, Soano and Isla, where our campsite in Cantabria is located, that marked out and built this protected area.

Today, the Ecopark perpetuates this legacy and offers visitors the chance to discover and truly appreciate the riches of this well-preserved ecosystem. Using environmentally friendly practices and conservation initiatives, the Ecopark team are firmly committed to protecting the area for future generations.
